Privacy
Short version: no ads, no tracking, no analytics, no cookies of our own. To run a game server we must process a few things, and here they are.
Who is responsible
OreWars is run by a private person in Germany as a hobby, without payment. Contact for everything on this page: [email protected]
This website
- The site is plain files. It sets no cookies and uses no analytics, ads or social media plug-ins. The fonts are served from this site, not from Google.
- Our own web server keeps no log of visits.
- The site is delivered through Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., USA), which protects it from attacks and speeds it up. Cloudflare sees your IP address and the page you ask for, and may set a cookie that is strictly needed for security. Cloudflare takes part in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a safe, reachable site (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- The page shows live lines from the game: kills and other lines the whole server read in chat, and the week's standings, with player names. It never shows where a living player is or who is online.
The game server
When you join the server it processes:
- your Minecraft name and account ID (UUID), which Mojang's login service confirms to us;
- your IP address and the time, in the server log and for the anticheat;
- what you do in the game: chat, commands, movement and fights as far as the anticheat checks them, kills and deaths, what you mine, your base, your faction, your milestones and statistics.
Why: to run the game you asked to play (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR), and to keep it fair and safe: catching cheats, undoing duplicated items, enforcing the rules, defending against attacks (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
The game does not go through Cloudflare. It runs on a rented server of netcup GmbH (Germany) in a data centre in Vienna, Austria. The optional music pack is downloaded from this website.
What others can see
Other players see your player name, your chat, your builds and the public lines about you (kills, hauls, captures, boss fights, weekly standings). Some of those lines also appear on this website. Nobody but the operator sees your IP address.
How long it is kept
- Server logs with IP addresses: 30 days, then deleted.
- Logs of kills, boss fights and mining used to investigate cheating: 90 days.
- Backups of the world: 7 days.
- Your character, base, faction and statistics: as long as the world or season they belong to exists, or until you ask for removal. Fame from a finished season (a name in a hall of champions) stays unless you ask us to remove it.
- Bans: as long as the ban is in force.
Who else is involved
- netcup GmbH, Karlsruhe, Germany: the rented server (processor).
- Cloudflare, Inc.: website delivery and DNS.
- Mojang AB / Microsoft: checks your login. That is between you and them under their own privacy terms.
- bStats: some plugins send anonymous figures about the server (player count, versions). Nothing about you personally.
We do not sell data and do not use it for advertising.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, have its use restricted, object to processing based on legitimate interest, and receive your data in a portable form. Write to [email protected] from a contact we can link to your account, or tell us in the game. You can also complain to a data protection authority, for example the one where you live.
Giving us this data is not required by law, but without your name, account ID and IP address the game cannot let you in.
